The installation references the Enlightenment era and was initially created for the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academies for Science and the Arts of Belgium to celebrate scientific, humanistic, and critical thinking symbolized by light against obscurantism. The installation explores the fundamental principle of our perception of the world, the interaction between light and matter. Using cut glass fragments, lasers, and mist, the installation creates a choreographed dialogue between light, space, and matter. Concentrated light beams interact with the glass fragments, reminiscent of stained glass windows, to create a luminous choreography that fills the space with vibrant light patterns. The piece illustrates how different perspectives can reveal multiple facets of the world, aiming to re-enchant our perception of it. Enlightenment 250 underscores humility, as light remains elusive and a reminder of a form of divine.
