L’ENVOL

Magicstreet was asked to created a permanent artwork on the newly renovated TRONE 100 building in Ixelles. L’ENVOL is a sculptural and light installation representing the flight of a bird. Inspired by the photographic work of Muybridge and his study of the decomposition of movement, each stylized sculpture is created in the manner of a snapshot frozen in the air, the overall composition nevertheless evokes the movement which literally swirls around the central pinion of the building. The progression of the movement is amplified by a progression in the scale of the birds which also seem to grow as they climb along the building to take flight once they reach the top of the building. The stylized bird sculptures offer an aesthetic that blends with that of the building and its straight, modern lines. The metallic finish of the sculptures offers a play of reflections and lights, bringing out the birds which seem to be flying along the facade. These natural light effects are extended in the evening by the integration of light sources into the bodies of the birds.
